The shaft seal of the slurry pump is mainly used to prevent the leakage of the medium inside the pump to the outside or the entry of external air into the pump, ensuring the normal operation of the equipment. Its core function is to maintain the sealing of the pump, prevent medium loss and air infiltration.
Common types of shaft seals
Sealing is achieved through the soft and hard running in of the packing and shaft sleeve, which requires the use of shaft sealing water (with a pressure 1.5 kilograms higher than the pump outlet pressure). It is suitable for scenarios such as mineral processing plants and coal washing plants.
Secondary impeller seal
Using the pressure difference generated by the secondary impeller to achieve sealing, it is required that the backflow pressure does not exceed 15% of the pump outlet pressure, which is suitable for water scarce environments. 
Sealing is achieved through tight friction between the dynamic and static rings, which can be divided into no water filling type (no shaft seal water required), external flushing type (shaft seal water required), and internal flushing type (shaft seal water pressure must be 1.5 kilograms higher than the outlet pressure). The service life can reach 4000-8000 hours.
